'Madame Speaker'

Unexpectedly, those words, announcing the president's arrival in tonight's joint session of Congress, moved me. I teared up a bit.

And since it will be mentioned anyway - not necessarily wrongly - Nancy P is wearing a fetching pistachio-colored suit. The person I can't identify, however, is Legs McGee in the front row wearing a pink suit that hits above the knee. Whoever it is, she's probably too old for an above the knee skirt.

I fear I make have jumped the blog-shark with that last statement from thoughtful political analyst to fluffy, pointless commentator. But fear not. I'll get to the speech-snark soon enough.

I'm so embarrassed that I loved the Speaker's suit, but it really was symbolic for me. How refreshing to see a colorful suit up on that dais. I'm so glad she's not trying to fit into the old boys old and instead creating her own.

I think the woman in the pink suit was margaret Spellings, Education Secretary, but I'm not sure as I was on the treadmill, 20 feet from the TV, without my contacts. But she stood for all the education stuff, and fit her profile, so that's my best guess.

I got pretty choked up last night too, also unexpectedly. Not only was history being made for women and girls, but I also felt the force of the power shift in DC. Yahoo!

Catherine - I agree with you on all points. And I'd like to think we're empowered to talk about fashion if we want to without feeling ashamed about it. Too much for a trivial issue? Maybe, but dammit, I'm sure the boys have golf club or Air Force 1 envy or something.

Zeno - have I seen all the SOTUs? Yes. Have we met? Are you using my site to pull traffic? That's alright. I don't mind. Nice collection of photos.
